TAKE HEED!!!

Deuteronomy 4

Heed It is the Hebrew word shamar meaning properly to hedge about (as with thorns), i.e. guard; generally to protect, attend to, etc. :- beware, be circumspect, take heed (to self), keep (-er, self), mark, look narrowly, observe, preserve, regard, reserve, save (self), sure, (that lay) wait (for), watch (-man).Strong's Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary.  Heed in English means (according to the Webster’s 1828 Dictionary) to caution; care; watch for danger; notice; usually preceded by take.   Circumspection

(Ephesians 5:15  Circumspectly means  Cautiously; with watchfulness every way; with attention to guard against surprise or danger, looking around  (it means to have circle vision.  Animals that have circle vision are animals that are prey to other animals.  For instance, a deer has eyes on the side of its face, a fish has eyes on the side of its head, some birds have eyes on the side of their heads.  Animals that have eyes in the front are lions, tigers and bears.  We as Christians are the prey to the world, the flesh and the devil (1 John 2:15).

Here are some things to take heed to…

I).    Take Heed To The Witness Of God  (v9)

                  A).    Lest Thou Forget

1).  We should never forget what we have seen God do

2).  We should never forget what we will see God do

                  B).    Lest They  Depart

1).   Things in our lives can cause us to forget the wonders we have seen God do.

2).   Things in our lives can cause us to forsake the wonders that we have seen God do.

II).   Take Heed To The Wonder Of God (v15-22)

A).    God showed up on the mountain with a wonder (the fire) (v15)

B).    God shows us on the mountain His wonder (Calvary)

Like the children of Israel were brought out of Egypt (the iron furnace of v20), the Lord                    has delivered us out of the iron furnace of Hell by the shed blood of Jesus Christ.

III).  Take Heed To The Word Of God   (v23)

A).   Notice the Reality of the word of God (v23-25)

1).  We see a need to continue in His Word (v23)

2).  We see the consequence from His Word (23-25)

B).     Notice the Record of the word of God  (v26-40)

Moses reminds them of what is going to befall them in the Land, but gives the remnant hope of the Lord being merciful (v31).  The Lord will never forsake us, he will not destroy us, nor forget His covenant that He made with His only begotten Son.  That covenant was bought with the precious blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.

There are other things that we are to take heed for.  Such as…

Your heart (Deut.  11:16)

Your ways  (Ps. 39:1)

Your spirit  (Mal. 2:15)

Your hearing  (Mark 4:24)

Your doctrine (1 Timothy 4:16)

Your ministry (Colossians 4:17)

Yourself (Acts 20:28)

The phrase “take heed” is used 55 times in the Bible.  5 is the number of grace in the Bible and the number of death.  The first time the phrase “and he died” is in Genesis 5.   Thus giving us the idea that taking heed to what God wants can warrant us grace for doing right or chastisement for not taking heed.
