A Sermon Outline By   Pastor Elza Lamb

"JESUS PAID IT ALL, ALL TO HIM I OWE"

Luke 7:36-50 Verse#:45-48. Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet. My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment. Wherefore I say unto thee, her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little. And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven.

In Hebrews 10:10-14 Verse #12 "But this Man" after he had offered one SACRIFICE for SINS for EVER, sat down on the right hand of God;......" after he had offered ONE SACRIFICE FOR SINS FOREVER"

If we could get into a TIME MACHINE of some kind and return to 1900-1905 you would HEAR THE POLITICIANS and other saying about the BASIC GOODNESS OF MANKIND, you’d almost shake your head in unbelief because they were being INFLUENCED PROFOUNDLY BY DARWIN’S theory of EVOLUTION. Many were saying as the Twentieth century began that, SINCE WE HAVE EVOLVED BIOLOGICALLY, mankind would now EVOLVE SPIRITUALLY and MORALLY.

Many were saying that people were not SINNERS as PREACHERS of the BIBLE were saying; they are not DEPRAVED as THEOLOGIANS are saying, but BASICALLY SWEET, GENTLE, and GOOD.

They said the reason we FOUGHT and KILLED was because we were HUNGRY, Ill-housed, or ill-clothed, and many of them said, "All you need to do is EDUCATE MANKIND BETTER, and that would give us a better CIRCUMSTANCES and then we WILL BRING IN A UTOPIA."

We know that in that period of time World War I broke out, and as the 20th century can in World War II broke out, and following that WAR after WAR and things have not gotten better but worse and now we are in the finial hours before World War III breaks out.

Paul Said: 2 Tim 3:13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. (Man can never better Himself apart from God)

I. THE RESENTMENT OF THE PHARISEE.

Luke 7:36-37. And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee’s house, and sat down to meat. And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster box of ointment,

(A). THE STATEMENT OF THE PHARISEE.

Luke 7:39 Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner. (It may be that Simon invited the Lord Jesus to his house that he might find some way of accusing Him: (Luke 11:53-54 Pharisees began to urge him vehemently, and to provoke him to speak of many things: Laying wait for him, and seeking to catch something out of his mouth, that they might accuse him.)

(B). THE SERVICE OF THE SINNER.

Luke 7:38. And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.

II. THE RESPONSE OF THE SAVIOR.

Luke 7:40-43. And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on. = ("Teacher speak") There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty. And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most? Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged.

(A). THE WARNING OF THE SAVIOR.

Luke 7:40. And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee.

1. For Simon, the matter was already settled; this JESUS OF NAZARETH was an IMPOSTOR.

2. Some In OUR DAY have come up with the SAME CONCLUSION. (The most foolish things a person can say about Jesus is that He was a good man and His teaching contains the highest morality known to man, but His CLAIMS TO DEITY MUST BE REJECTED. How could HE BE GOOD AND make such claims, if they are NOT TRUE?) What are these CLAIMS?

(1). He said that the Father and are One (in substance, equality and authority John 10:30.) (2). He existed before the worlds were made John 8:58) (3). His words will exist when time is no more. Matthew 24:35). (4). He can forgive sins. Luke 5:24). (5). He will be the final Judge of all intelligent beings. John 5:22). (6). He will reign supreme over the universe of God. Matthew 25:3)

(1). the Contents of the Parable.

Luke 7:41-42 There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence,= (500 pieces of silver) and the other fifty.= (50 pieces of silver) And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both.

1. This parable is the truth between two debtors to which the Lord is drawing Simon’s attention; it is not the GREAT DIFFERENCE of the DEBTORS, but rather the LIKENESS of the DEBTORS.

2. The phrase, "they had nothing to pay" are the same EXPRESSIONS as "the lost" Luke 19:10. For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost, the expression "without strength".

Romans 5:6. For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.

3. We can learn from the parable that there is no such thing as "FREE FORGIVENESS", but only "DIVINE FORGIVENESS"

4. Verse #42 "He frankly forgave them both" = an unconditional act of mercy.

Paul in Romans 8:32. He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

(B). THE WICKEDNESS OF SIMON.

Luke 7:42 Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most?

Luke 7:43 Simon answered and said, I suppose = "I imagine" that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged.

("I suppose or I imagine was spoken with the caution of one wanting to leave a way out for himself.")

JESUS PAID IT ALL, ALL TO HIM I OWN, SIN HAD LIFT A CRIMSON STAIN HE WASH IT WHIT AS SNOW.

III. THE REACTION OF THE WOMAN.

Luke 7:44-50. And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head. And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgiveth sins also? And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.

(A). THE WOMAN’S DEVOTION.

Luke 7:37-38 And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster box of ointment, And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.

1. As she stood behind him, her emotions walled up and TEARS BEGAN TO FALL ON HIS FEET.

2. She wiped them off with her hair, which she must have loosened for this purpose. (It was not customary for Jewish woman to allow their hair to be unbound in public unless they were in MOURNING)

3. Washing the FEET was the WORK OF THE LOWEST LEVEL of the HOUSEHOLD SLAVES; she then proceeded to KISS HIS FEET and to ANOINT them with the OINTMENT.

(B). THE WOMAN’S DEED. (Her accomplishments, action)

Luke 7:44-50. And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head.

And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgiveth sins also? And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace

1. The woman had been silent as she listened to the conversation that had involved her; the Lord now POINTED SIMON TO HER, "Seest thou this woman?"

2. Poor Simon did not see HER AS SHE IS NOW: (She was FORGIVEN, He was UNFORGIVING) (She was WISE, He was FOOLISH.) (…..If you cannot forgive you have never experienced God’s forgiveness’)

3. "Verse #50 "And he said to THE WOMAN, THY FAITH hath SAVED THE; go in PEACE".

Conclusion: Salvation in its full scope is not only a SALVATION FROM SIN’S PENALTY, (her great debt had been paid,) but SALVATION is also a CHANGED LIFE.

JESUS PAID IT ALL, ALL TO HIM I OWN, SIN HAD LIFT A CRIMSON STAIN HE WASH IT WHIT AS SNOW

Prov 26:14-15 As the door turneth upon his hinges, so doth the slothful upon his bed. The slothful hideth his hand in his bosom; it grieveth him to bring it again to his mouth.

Here God says if you SLEEP ALL THE TIME you;er going to BE IN NEED.

Prov 6:10-11 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.

Now move over to chapter 19, I want to read some versis from that chapter: Now when the BOOK OF PROVERBS USES the word "slothfulnes" it’s our word for "laziness".

Prov 19:15 "laziness" = Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger.

Prov 19:24 A slothful man hideth his hand in his bosom, and will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.

(a). Now, folks, that is a LAZY PERSON, Do YOU SEE what it SAYS? "It says HE PUTS HIS HAND IN HIS COAT AND HE IS SO LAZY THAT HE DOESN’T EVEN WANT TO put it HIS MOUTH AGAIN.

Prov 20:4 The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing. ..... Ill Bill Mathes, Lois Wright etc. Kenny Price.

Prov 23:21 For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness = "laziness" shall clothe a man with rags.

Now it’s getting a little more serious. He LUMPS THE LAZY MAN right ALONGSIDE with the GLUTTONOUS and the DRUNKARD. (DRUNKARD, GLUTTON, DROWSINESS)

Prov 24:33-34 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man.

IF YOU SLEEP AND SLUMBER YOU WILL NOT EAT:.........
