A Sermon Outline By   Chuck Hollowell

NO FAITH IN THE FACE OF DANGER

Matt 9:29; Mark 4:35-41

The story begins with the Lord saying to his disciples (Mk 4:35). What confidence, comfort, and cheer the disciples should have had in knowing that the Lord had just guaranteed their safe passage to the other side! There was nothing that could hinder or stop them from passing to the other side! (Rom 8:29-30).

The same Lord has guaranteed every born again child of God safe passage to the other side!

I. The raging storm (Mk 4:37)

Here we have a picture of our journey across the sea of life. God wants us to understand that on our journey we're going to encounter some situations, storms that will overwhelm us. But if we realize who we are, and whose on board with us we can have confidence we are not going down: we are headed over! On our way to the other side you may or will...

A. Encounter a storm caused by family

Your own flesh and blood may turn their back on God, quit , walk away from God. When they do, If you are serving the Lord, they will walk away from you!

B. Encounter a storm caused by friends (2 Tim 4:10)

Paul went on to say, "the Lord stood with me."

When you go through that storm, just remember what the Lord said (Heb 13:5-6).

When your family and friends walk away from you, you can go to Jesus (Jer 33:3).

The Lord can go where we can't go; work where we can't work! Do what we can't do!

C. Encounter a storm caused by finances (Matt 6:24)

Don't worry about food, clothing, and shelter (Matt 6:33).

You live for God, stay with the Lord, serve him, and be faithful, God will supply!

II. The reeling saints (mk 4:37)

A. The ship was full of water (4:37) "now full"

B. The saints were full of fear (4:38)

They were in such danger and distress that they even doubted that the Lord cared (4:38).

III. The risen savior (mk 4:39a) "and he arose"

A. He rebuked the storm (Mk 4:39b)

He didn't need a rod like Moses!

He didn't need a mantle like Elijah!

He had all he needed: He had His word. He spoke (4:39; Psa 89:9)

His word was sufficient to calm the sea.

Song: He Can Calm The Troubled Waters Of Your Soul

B. He reproved the saints (Mk 4:40; 2 Cor 9:8)

There will never be a situation, or a storm that God's grace won't be sufficient!

His grace is sufficient to save (Rom 5:1-2, 8-10)
