Mothers
The Joys of Being Mom
MOTHERHOOD
The mother of
three notorious kids was asked, "If you had it to do all over again would you
have children?"
"Sure," she
said, "but not the same ones."
MOTHERHOOD
An overzealous
little boy was pledging his devotion to his mother when he began to brag of what
he would do for her when he grew up. "Mom, when I grow up I'm going to buy you
an electric can opener, an electric toaster, an electric stove, and an electric
chair."
MOTHERHOOD
"The joy of
motherhood is what a woman experiences when all the children have gone to bed."
The Perfect Gift for Mom
Three sons,
who were very successful, discussed the gifts they gave their elderly mother on
Mother's day.
The first said, "I built a big house for our mother."
The second said," I sent her a Mercedes."
The third said, "I've got you, both beat. You know how Mom enjoys the Bible, and
you know she can't see very well. I sent her a parrot that can recite the entire
Bible. It took 20 monks in a monastery 12 years to teach him. I had to pledge to
contribute $100,000.00 a year for 10 years, but it was worth it. Mom just has to
name the chapter and verse, and the parrot will recite it."
Soon thereafter, Mom mailed her letters of thanks:
She wrote the first son, "Michael, the house you built is too large. I live in
only one room, but I have to clean the whole house."
She wrote the second son, "Marvin, I'm nearly blind so I can't drive. I stay
home all the time, so I never use the Mercedes."
"Dearest Melvin," she wrote to her third son, "You were the only son to have the
good sense to know what your mother likes. That chicken was delicious!"
Single Moms in the U. S.
There are 82.5 million
mothers in the United States. Ten million of them are single. (Focus
on the Family, May 2006, p.27)
Just Trust Mom
A young man
was standing at the grocery store checkout line when he noticed an elderly woman
in front of him. As she unloaded her grocery cart, she kept looking up and
staring at him. After a few awkward moments, he asked, “Why do you keep staring
at me?”
The woman
said, “I'm sorry, but it's just that you look exactly like my son who recently
died."
"I'm so
sorry to hear that," the young man replied. "Is there anything I can do for
you?"
"Yes," she
said. “As I leave, if you would say, 'Goodbye, Mother' it would make me feel so
much better because I need closure."
"I’d be
glad to do that for you," he answered.
As the old
woman was leaving, he called out, "Goodbye, Mother!"
After
unloading his cart, the bill came to $147.50.
"How can
that be?" he asked the clerk. "I only purchased a few items."
“Oh,” the
clerk replied, "your mother said that you would pay for her."

Omniscience
No Creature is Hidden From His Sight
In the
movie The Truman Show, Truman Burbank believes his life is no different from
anyone else’s—until he begins to notice peculiar things happening, like
instances that repeat every day. Then he gets suspicious that something strange
is going on.
What he
doesn't realize is that every second of his life from the day he was born has
been telecast live to the entire planet. He is the star of The Truman Show, the
most popular television show in the world, which broadcasts every aspect of his
life around the clock. From the moment he wakes up until he goes to bed at
night, the world eavesdrops on Truman's life through the aid of five thousand
hidden cameras. Finally Truman comes to the life-changing realization that an
unseen audience is watching his every move.
Do you
realize an unseen audience is watching your life, too? Not through television
cameras, but through the eyes of God. Although we can’t see him, he is watching
everything we do. “And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all
things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do”
(Hebrews 4:13).

God the Mathematician
How much
does God know?
Without a
telescope you can only see about 3,000 stars from any point on Earth. Scientists
estimate the universe contains at least 70 sextillion stars
(70-thousand-million-million-million). That's 7 followed by 22 zeroes, or
ten-times the number of grains of sand on earth. Psalm 147:4 tells us God "counts
the numbers of the stars; He gives names to all of them."
Not only that, but God
counts the numbers of every hair on every person in the world. Jesus said,
"Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered" (Luke 12:7). If
God knows that much, He certainly knows what you are going through right now.

Opinions
Eat at Eddies
The gas
tank was nearly empty when I pulled into the service station. While my wife and
kids piled out of the car, I filled up the tank and noticed the restaurant named
"Eddie's" next door. It looked like it might be a good place for us to grab a
bite.
After
paying for the gas, I walked into the restroom. Someone had left a message
scratched on the wall, designed to be read by weary travelers like me:"Eat at
Eddie's--50,000 flies can't be wrong!"
Well, that was one man's opinion. But that wasn't the way I liked to pick my restaurants. (Kent Crockett, The 911 Handbook, Peabody, MA: Hendrickson Publishers, 2003, 175)

Feeling Good
A cartoon
depicted a man hanging by chains on the wall of a dungeon. He was skinny and had
long hair and a long beard. He had obviously been hanging there a long time. A
psychiatrist was sitting in a chair in front of him with a pad and pen and was
taking notes as he listened to the man. The man hanging on the wall, grinning
from ear to ear, said, "Call me weird, but I feel good!" It is possible to feel
good in spite of the circumstances. (Kent Crockett, The 911 Handbook,
Peabody, MA: Hendrickson Publishers, 2003, 79)
